Business Intelligence Solution Architect

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the business value requirements by consulting closely with internal stakeholders i.e., Product Head, Product Owners and Business Analysts, Project Team, and Business Leaders.
  • Evaluate the ecosystem, non-functional and architectural requirements by consulting closely with internal support stakeholders i.e., Technology Services, Technology Strategy, Platforms and Enterprise Architecture.
  • Work closely with all business areas to capture BI (Business Intelligence) requirements based on business objectives, initiatives, challenges and questions.
  • Facilitate the creation of a delivery roadmap and work breakdown structure to help the team with the most efficient delivery pipeline.
  • Translate user stories into wireframe designs of the dashboards.
  • Provide BI / reporting on all the identified KPI areas specified in the KPI requirements document by creating, developing and maintaining BI reports in Microsoft Power BI. The dashboards will be updated and maintained by the various business teams (self service).
  • Provide advice on technical aspects of BI development and integration, including the operational and maintenance aspects of systems under development, and proposed system recovery procedures.
  • Ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.
  • Apply Systems Architecture Principles (IT technologies and software architecture), Agile Systems Development Processes (CI/CD standards and agile delivery methods), Component-based and Service-oriented Architecture
  • Support the Reporting & Analytics Manager to respond positively to proposed data initiatives, arising from the Information Governance Group, and provide the necessary support and expertise to deliver such initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing support and implementation of change for the ETL solution interfacing between the applications.
  • Maintain analytics software in the back end, ensuring data is coming through correctly
  • Design, develop and administer the SQL Database.
  • Apply enterprise data management practices and principles in ways of working.
  • Identify patterns, trends and insight through use of the appropriate tools.
  • Identify data quality issues through data profiling, analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyse data to provide insights for internal and external stakeholders on improving the organisation’s performance.
  • Apply dimensional data modelling concepts and practices to develop conceptual, logical and physical data models to support insight delivery.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years proven working experience in software engineering and development (Cobol and/or Java and/or .NET and/or Python and/or JavaScript)
  • Minimum 3 experience in designing solutions but not necessarily fully independent for end-to-end and full stack design
  • Advanced experience of Business Intelligence reporting design and implementation.
  • Advanced Experience using Power BI and SQL.
  • Experience of Data Warehouse and ETL solutions.
  • Able to present data in a way that is simple to interpret and cascade out to the organisation whilst making insightful recommendations.
  • Able to link data interdependencies and communicate complex information simply.
  • Track-record and strong understanding of KPI / Metric principles.
  • Previous experience of working in a technical analyst role.
  • Previous experience in utilities sector desirable but not essential.
  • Highly analytical and strong critical thinker.
  • Ability to communicate and present clear thinking on all levels.
  • Strong listening, organisation and networking abilities.

 

Solution Architectural Health

  • Monitor and report on the health of the overall architecture as implemented throughout product delivery from inception through to production operations.
  • Identify architectural and implementation risks and advise on the implementation of corrective actions where risks are detected.
  • Facilitate and participate in architectural reviews of new and existing solutions as well as vendor proposals.
  • Refine architecture throughout product delivery.
  • Actively collaborate in and contribute to Architecture Centres of Excellence (CoEs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs) activities.
  • Share architectural health metrics with stakeholders along the functional and non-functional value chain.
